Peihang Benoît
Peihang Benoît (黃沛涵) explores time, space, memory and displacement in her overall practice. Subjects are often inspired by migratory experiences, the displacement from her family history and intimate perceptions in everyday life, all of which connects her personal story to a bigger tide that connects to current events. The visual languages in her paintings come from the playfulness of everyday life images — often from snapshots taken on the phone or from the archives. Cutting and collaging with either geometric or organic shapes fractures the original context, extending or filling the void by painting and the movement of brushstrokes that creates a new narrative. Peihang Benoît sees the texture of the painting itself and traces of the movement on the canvas as an act of preserving and reflecting moments and consciousness.
Peihang Benoît was born in Taiwan in 1986. She now lives and works in Paris, France.
