Asian Abstraction : Paths to the West (1950-1970)

Art Paris Art Fair 2016

The exhibition presents some twenty works by post-war Korean and Chinese abstract avant-garde artists.

In a deeply disturbed world, these artists free themselves from the pictorial references of the past and find new sources of inspiration in contemporary Western art.

This fascination for the West led them to travel to France or the United States where they were fully immersed in the abstract art of the 1950s.

At the crossroads of East and West, these artists then create a new form of abstraction without equivalence.
