The exhibition traces, for first time, the origins and evolution of Chinese abstract painting. These works are a journey through the aesthetics, history and cultural exchanges with the Western world.
Fleeing from several successive wars, a great number of Chinese left mainland China and moved to Taiwan. As early as the 1950's, in a world entirely new to them, the artists progressively discovered the abstract art of the Schools of New York and Paris. This would affect them deeply and ultimately revolutionize their art.
Drawing from a break with tradition that provoked the problem of an East-West duality, these artists managed to create a new form of abstraction that had never been seen elsewhere.
With the support of various collectors and artists, we were able to gather close to a hundred works of art for you to discover in a remarkable and unprecedented exhibition.
